As outlined by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) in their regulatory document “Certification Procedure for Portable Fuel Container Systems,” manufacturers must adhere to strict testing and performance requirements to sell fuel containers in California. The document highlights the official steps required for certification, with specific emphasis on safety, emission control, and compliance with state and federal codes.
According to Section 2467.1, Title 13 of the California Code of Regulations, the ARB mandates that any portable fuel container system introduced, delivered, sold, or offered for sale in California must first demonstrate compliance through an extensive certification process. This includes emissions testing, spout performance evaluation, and durability assessments.
